Imhoff Cone
| Total Capacity | 1 L |
| Graduation Range | 1000 |
| Material | Borosilicate Glass |
| Stopper Type | Without Stopper |
| Stand Included | No |
| Graduation Interval | 1000 |
Purpose: Measures settleable solids (in mL/L) to determine the efficiency of sewage treatment and sludge accumulation.
Structure: A conical vessel with a broad top and a narrow bottom tip, typically 1-liter (1000 mL) in capacity.
Material: Usually made of clear glass (like borosilicate) or transparent, unbreakable plastic (e.g., styrene-acrylonitrile, SAN).
Graduation: Graduated from 0 to 1 mL (in 0.1 mL increments), up to 10 mL, and again with larger graduations up to 1000 mL to allow accurate measurement of small volumes of solids.
Types: Available with a closed bottom tip or a stopcock/screw cap at the bottom for easy cleaning and sediment removal.
Usage: Usually placed in a specialized wire or plastic stand (e.g., this Mudtest Stand) to hold it vertically.
Borosil Scientific +7
Key Applications:
Wastewater Treatment: Measuring settleable solids in domestic and industrial effluent.
Environmental Analysis: Testing surface water, mud, or stormwater for sediment load.
Well Cleaning: Determining sand content during well construction.

Standard Procedure:
The sample is poured into the cone up to the 1-liter mark and allowed to settle for 45 minutes, stirred, and then settled for another 15 minutes (total 1 hour) before reading the volume of settled solids at the bottom
